Finnish President Alexander Stubb said that during a telephone conversation with European leaders on Thursday, President Donald Trump proposed that the US and Europe act together on further sanctions against Russia and that sanctions on oil and gas are up for discussion.

“Trump's approach was that we should act together on sanctions policy and now look for ways, in particular, to stop Russia's military machine by economic means,” Stubb told Finnish media after the meeting, according to Reuters.

“In that case, there are two targets, namely oil and gas. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and President Trump's closest advisers will discuss this over the next 24 hours,” the Finnish president added.
