Russia is absolutely not happy with Ukraine's NATO membership, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"As a result of the coup, [former Ukrainian President Viktor] Yanukovych was removed from power. A person was removed who was against Ukraine's NATO membership... Forces that were in favor of [Ukraine's NATO] membership were brought to power [in the country], and now they continue to hope for Ukraine's NATO membership. We [i.e. Russia] are not happy with this at all. Even despite the fact that every country has the right to choose to ensure its own security, such issues are not resolved without glancing at Russia's security," Putin said at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russia.
"As for possible military contingents in Ukraine... If decisions are made that will lead to peace, long-term peace, then I simply don’t see the point in their presence on the territory of Ukraine. That's all. Because if these agreements are signed, no one doubts that Russia will fully implement them," the Russian president noted.
