STRASBOURG. – Bureau on Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) has not finally decided on prolonging works of PACE sub-committee on Nagorno-Karabakh, Armenian delegation member at PACE, coalition member Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) MP Naira Zohrabyan said from Strasbourg. 

The interlocutor said that head of the subcommittee on Nagorno-Karabakh had submitted a small project for prolonging its work. However, head of the Armenian delegation at PACE Davit Harutyunyan opposed it and turned to the newly elected PACE head Jean-Claude Mignon claiming the Armenian delegation is against the project and will boycott it. In response, Mignon said that the Bureau has not decided on it yet.  

In response to Zohrabyan’s question addressed to PACE Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland whether the PACE states should recognize and condemn the Armenian Genocide, especially when it is being discussed at the French Senate, Jagland said that he cannot call all the 47 states to do the same as a Secretary General. However, each state’s National Assembly can initiate and discuss the issue. The PACE states are free on the issue. As for him, he personally believes it is not a political but a historic issue.
