An Azerbaijani citizen has been detained in the Stavropol Region of Russia on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act upon the instruction of Ukraine, informs the Public Relations Center of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia.

"The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation has prevented another attempt by the Ukrainian regime to carry out a number of sabotage and terrorist acts on the territory of our country," the statement said.

According to the FSB, the detainee had joined a banned Ukrainian terrorist organization, conducted reconnaissance in administrative buildings and transport infrastructure in Yessentuki and Stavropol cities, acquired materials for the production of explosive devices and planted them in a hiding place, and planned to assemble several homemade explosives using the skills acquired during his service in the special forces.

Components of explosive devices, communication equipment, and evidence of his activities were seized from this suspect.

A criminal case has been opened on charges of preparation of a terrorist act.
