Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya was one of the targets of the operation, an Israeli official confirmed to the Jerusalem Post. However, his death has not been confirmed. 

Two sources in Hamas told Reuters that Hamas representatives involved in the ceasefire negotiations survived the attack.

According to an Israeli source, Hamas spokesman Khaled Meshaal was apparently not in the building at the time of the attack.

At the same time, according to sources in the Jerusalem Post, the US knew about the attack in advance and gave it the “green light.” The US Embassy in Doha issued an order to provide shelter to all US citizens. 

“Hamas received a new proposal from Qatar, which we [Israel] received from Whitkoff last week in Paris. Yesterday, the prime minister met with the Hamas leadership, and they decided to meet again today to discuss the proposal from Turkey,” the source said.

“As has happened before, the Israelis have dashed hopes for peace, further prolonging the war and complicating efforts to return the hostages,” Qatar responded.
