The “Zangezur transport hub” should be overseen solely by Armenia, said First President Levon Ter-Petrosyan.

To Ilur.am’s question about how he sees the resolution of the “Zangezur corridor” issue, Ter-Petrosyan responded as follows: “I would like to note right away that I would avoid using the term ‘Zangezur corridor,’ as it raises certain concerns among the active layers of our [i.e. Armenian] society. Therefore, I believe that it is more correct to use the term ‘Zangezur transport hub’ instead.

Naturally, overseeing of the ‘Zangezur transport hub,’ by virtue of sovereign right, should be exercised solely by Armenia. As for the political and economic objectives of other interested countries, Armenia, in my conviction, is able, in accordance with the requirements of international law, to guarantee their uninterrupted activity.

In this regard, Armenia, whether it likes it or not, expects the active cooperation of its strategic partners—Russia, the USA, and Iran, despite the obvious disagreements between them. Conflicts between great powers, as a rule, are resolved more easily than between small countries, which is explained by the maturity of the great ones. This is evidenced, in particular, by the overcoming of the Caribbean (1962) and Damansky (1969) crises, the arms reduction agreements signed between the superpowers from time to time simultaneously with their competition, their mutually agreed solutions in the event of proxy wars, etc.”
