The sixth round of negotiations with the participation of the special representatives for the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations, Ambassador Serdar Kilic and the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Ruben Rubinyan, was held in Yerevan on Friday, informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Turkey, Turkish media report.
The parties confirmed the agreements reached in previous meetings, and discussed the steps to implement the agreements reached on border crossings on July 1, 2022. It was decided to accelerate the process of their opening.
The interlocutors touched upon also the restoration and commissioning of the Kars-Gyumri railway line and the electrical interconnection line. The competent authorities of the two countries will carry out technical work.
In order to strengthen cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, the parties agreed to develop academic and cultural projects. In particular, this concerns the provision of scholarships to students and the joint reconstruction of the Silk Road Bridge (Ani).
In addition, representatives of Turkey and Armenia agreed on preparations for the opening of new flights between the two countries, starting from the summer of 2026, in order to increase air traffic.
At the end of the meeting, the parties confirmed their commitment to continue the process of normalization of relations without preconditions.
