YEREVAN. – Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) becomes an institution using double standards, member of the Armenian delegation at PACE, coalition member Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) MP Naira Zohrabyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am commenting on her speech at PACE on Wednesday.

The MP said that PACE discusses a project of a resolution putting it on a very high level. They speak on respecting right of every citizen in a state regarding religious, cultural and public life of the state, as well as basic principles of human rights. However, the Azerbaijani delegation uses any opportunity to run anti-Armenian propaganda and the current PACE session was not exclusion.

“Azerbaijani delegate again claimed of alleged 20% of occupied territories, refugees, whose total number changes every time and it was above million this time. Afterwards I delivered speech,” she said. “Each time delegates deliver a speech on high morals, I ask why all keep silent when the Azerbaijani delegate prohibits the speaker on political prisoners, legal issues and human rights at PACE to visit Azerbaijan? Or if the Turks are so honest why the Turkish PM Erdogan does not allow hanging the cross on the Armenian Church St Khach in Akhtamar, Van, but just sets some certain days to hang it on the church?”

Armenian delegation member said that no one carries responsibility on all those phenomena, any statement becomes declarative, or in better case reflects kind will.

“I asked whether PACE features states purchasing democracy by oil. Is there any privileged state and states to be criticized only?” MP said.

According to Zohrabyan, the issue of double standards acquires serious changes at PACE. The issue has become so modern that Liberal-Democratic alliance, where the MP is included, seriously considers whom to send as an observer for the Russian presidential elections who could not yield to local powers’ pressure, she concluded.
