Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has called for unifying the Gaza Strip with the West Bank through Arab and international support, resulting in a single, unified state with East Jerusalem as its capital, reports WAFA news agency.

He reiterated that sovereignty over the Gaza Strip belongs to the State of Palestine, and that the connection between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip must be achieved through Palestinian laws and government institutions.

According to him, the Palestinian administrative committee established by the Ramallah government “is ready to take over the governance of the Gaza Strip, relying on unified Palestinian security forces.”

Also, Abbas lauded the efforts of US President Donald Trump and all other mediators to reach an agreement on ending the war in Gaza, withdrawing Israeli troops, expanding the supply of humanitarian aid to the Gazans, and conducting prisoner exchanges.

President Abbas expressed hope that these efforts would be a prelude to reaching a permanent political solution, leading to an end to the Israeli occupation of the State of Palestine, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that Israel and Palestinian radical movement Hamas had signed agreements concerning the first phase of the peace plan for the Gaza Strip. The American leader explained that this means the release of all hostages as soon as possible, as well as the withdrawal of Israeli forces to agreed borders.
