YEREVAN.- Turkey will not recognize the Armenian Genocide in the near future, considers expert in Turkish studies Artak Shakaryan.

Even French Senate’s decision cannot affect recognition process until the Turkish society is ready to acknowledge the Armenian Genocide, he told journalists on Friday.

He does not rule out the possibility that the European states, in particular Belgium and the Netherlands, will most likely follow France’s lead. The rights in Belgium and the Netherlands share France’s position on the issue, he stressed.

“Nowadays, Turkey is not striving to join the EU, taking into account the eurozone crisis. Besides, there are more important problems hindering Turkey’s joining the Union, for instance the Cyprus dispute,” Shakaryan said.
