France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin should visit Europe only if it results in a formal agreement for an unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine, Reuters reports.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he will soon meet with Putin in Budapest to conduct negotiations regarding Ukraine.

“For U.S. authorities, it is useful to exchange views to follow up on dialogue with the Russian authorities. However, Vladimir Putin’s announced visit to the European Union only makes sense if it leads to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine,” Barrot said ahead of the EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Luxembourg.

Meanwhile, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister, Gabrielius Landsbergis, stated that there is no place for Putin in any European capital. “The only place for Putin in Europe is The Hague — in court, not in any of our capitals,” Reuters quoted him as saying.
