A Ukrainian drone strike on the Orenburg gas processing plant has forced Kazakhstan to cut production at the Karachaganak oil and gas condensate field by 25–30%, Reuters reports, citing two industry sources.

Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy announced on Sunday that the Orenburg plant, one of the world’s largest, had to halt gas imports from Kazakhstan following the attack.

Ukraine confirmed that the strike targeted the gas processing plant in Orenburg Oblast, approximately 1,700 kilometers east of the Russia–Ukraine border, as well as an oil refinery in Samara Oblast.

According to the two sources who requested anonymity, production at Karachaganak fell on Monday to 25,000 metric tons per day (196,500 barrels per day), down from the usual 35,000–35,500 metric tons.

The field exports via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium to a Russian terminal on the Black Sea and through Russia’s “Druzhba” pipeline to Germany.
