Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has expressed gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump for his support in establishing a ceasefire and helping resolve the border conflict with Thailand, reports Khmer Times.

“I wish to thank His Excellency President Donald Trump for initiating and supporting the ceasefire, which is expected to lead to a peace agreement in Malaysia if conditions remain stable. I also extend gratitude to China’s leadership for actively participating in the ceasefire agreement, and special thanks to His Excellency Anwar Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia,” said the Cambodian leader.

Earlier, Cambodia and Thailand agreed to sign a peace agreement on border conflict resolution during the 47th ASEAN Summit at the end of this month in Kuala Lumpur, with mediation from the U.S. and Malaysia. The agreement follows previous consultations in Kuala Lumpur, aiming to end the longstanding tensions along the Cambodia-Thailand border.

The border clashes began on July 24 in Oddar Meanchey province, involving armed confrontations between Cambodian and Thai forces. Following the talks mediated by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, a ceasefire was declared, although occasional incidents continued afterward.
