Spain’s National Police announced the arrest of a criminal group that had been stealing chairs from restaurant terraces in Madrid and surrounding areas for several months, reports AP.

Authorities arrested seven individuals suspected of stealing over 1,100 chairs from the outdoor areas of restaurants and bars in Madrid and nearby Talavera de la Reina in just two months. The group consisted of six men and one woman.

The thefts were carried out at night, and the chairs were then sold in Spain, Morocco, and Romania. Police estimate the value of the stolen property at around €60,000.

The arrested suspects face charges of theft and belonging to a criminal organization.

In Spain, many restaurants and bars leave tables and chairs outside at night. They are usually made of metal or hard plastic and are stacked and chained together for security.
