On October 22, around 19:10, a detainee from the “Armavir” Penal Facility, who had been transferred to a civilian hospital for examination, attempted to escape by jumping out of a hospital window. A corrections officer fired at the detainee’s leg, stopping the escape, the Penitentiary Service reported to NEWS.am.

The detainee received medical care, and according to doctors, their life is not in danger.

According to Shamshyan.com, the escape was halted by a corrections officer, who fired shots at the detainee during the intervention, resulting in a gunshot wound.

Documents are being prepared regarding the incident, and the Ministry of Justice, under Minister Srbuk Galayan, has launched an internal investigation.

Reports indicate that the detainee who attempted to flee and sustained a gunshot wound is a foreign national.
