U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he intends to donate his personal funds toward the construction of a new White House ballroom but said he cannot yet specify the exact amount.

“How much will I donate? I can’t say until it’s finished, but I will donate as much as needed,” Trump stated.

The president clarified that donations already collected have reached $300 million.

Additionally, he mentioned that one donor pledged funds to cover the salaries of military personnel who had not been paid due to the U.S. federal government partial shutdown. “Today, he sent us a $130 million check. That money will go to meet the needs of the military,” Trump said, noting that he will not disclose the donor’s identity unless the donor consents.

In July, the Trump administration decided to build a $200 million ballroom at the White House. The new space will be located near the East Wing, constructed in 1902. The ballroom will occupy 8,400 square meters and accommodate up to 650 guests for events. Construction began in October and is expected to be completed by the end of Trump’s second term in January 2029.

The White House was originally intended as the official residence of the U.S. president by George Washington. Construction began in 1792, designed by architect James Hoban, and was completed on November 1, 1800, when the second president, John Adams, moved in. The building was reconstructed between 1815 and 1817 following a fire in 1814.
