Chinese authorities consider it entirely feasible to resolve existing trade and economic disagreements with the United States, according to Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao.

“Recently, everyone has been paying close attention to China-U.S. trade and economic issues,” Wang emphasized at a press briefing following the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. “The previous four rounds of trade and economic consultations between the two countries have convincingly demonstrated that China and the United States, through negotiations based on mutual respect and equality, can undoubtedly find solutions to their mutual concerns and the correct path for coexistence.”

Wang Wentao noted that Beijing and Washington thus have an opportunity to promote harmonious and stable development of China-U.S. trade relations. He also cited Chinese President Xi Jinping’s position, stating that dialogue and cooperation are “the only correct choice” for the two countries.

“China, as a responsible major country, consistently opposes division and fragmentation, and resolutely supports the security and stability of global industrial and supply chains,” the minister concluded.
