Relations between Armenia and the European Union (EU) are historically at a high level. Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated this during Monday’s joint meeting of standing parliamentary committees — and on the debates on the 2026 state budget draft of Armenia.

According to him, in 2026 Armenia will intensify its efforts toward EU membership.

“I want to state immediately and unequivocally that relations between the Republic of Armenia and the European Union have never been this comprehensive and close. This is evidenced by both the content of the Armenia-EU political dialogue and the mutual high-level visits that took place in 2025, as well as the agreements previously reached,” Mirzoyan said.

He emphasized that, in this context, the Armenian National Assembly’s passing of the law on launching Armenia’s EU membership process is a significant and fundamental event.

“This policy is extremely important for the [Armenian] government and particularly for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2026, we must intensify our efforts to achieve EU membership. Armenia aims to join the family of democratic, developing, and prosperous countries,” the Armenian FM stated.

He added, however, that Armenia will continue its measured and balanced foreign policy.
