On his way to South Korea aboard Air Force One, US President Donald Trump told reporters that US. law prohibits him from running for a third term, which he described as “too bad,” BBC News reports.

“I would say that if you read it, [the Constitution] it’s pretty clear, I’m not allowed to run. It’s too bad. But we have a lot of great people,” Trump said.

The 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution bars presidents from running for a third term, although there are rumors that Trump may attempt to do so.

His former advisor Steve Bannon has claimed that there is a plan for Trump to run for a third term.

Trump himself said that he would very much like to run for a third term.

Just a few days ago, while flying from Malaysia to Japan aboard Air Force One, he told reporters that although he would be allowed to run again as vice president, he has no plans to do so.

Running as vice president would allow him to lead the US while circumventing the aforesaid constitutional restriction on a third presidential term.
