The adoption of the declaration and the initialing of the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan signify that peace has already been established; nevertheless, a number of humanitarian issues remain unresolved. This was stated by the speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, in his address at the opening of the 12th Ordinary Session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly in the NA.

“The issue of [Armenian] persons, prisoners of war held in Azerbaijan remains a serious problem that must be resolved. Another important humanitarian issue: determining the fate of numerous missing persons is a priority,” added Simonyan.

Also, he addressed the Eastern Partnership, and emphasized that the Euronest is an important platform for strengthening closer ties between the European Union (EU) and the countries of the Eastern Partnership.

“Dialogue on [Armenia-EU] visa liberalization is also progressing rapidly. Armenia is committed to the effective implementation of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement [with the EU]. I am confident that the recently agreed new partnership agenda will contribute to the strengthening of new cooperation priorities,” said the speaker of the NA of Armenia.
