The European Parliament is committed to supporting this very delicate, yet at the same time very vital process in order to create conditions for a just and lasting peace. Vice president of the European Parliament, Younous Omarjee, on Wednesday stated this at the 12th Ordinary Session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly (PA) being held in the National Assembly of Armenia — and referring to relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Omarjee added that they welcome the efforts of both countries aimed at establishing peace.

Armenia’s recent decisions are extremely important. Armenia has adopted a historic law stating that it sees its future within Europe. This is not just a symbolic gesture but a strategic choice to join the family of European democracies. The European Parliament is ready to support Armenia on this historic path — of course, if it decides to officially submit its candidacy for EU membership, noted Omarjee.

Also, the vice president of the European Parliament pointed out that a session of the Euronest PA was being held in Armenia for the second time.

Armenia’s hospitality is evidence that it attaches great importance to European dialogue and cooperation. Euronest is more than just a platform for dialogue; it is a vivid example of their collective political will and an opportunity for the EU and its partners to jointly create their future, based on the principles of peace and democracy, Omarjee said.

Today the world is more full of challenges than ever. Global threats to security and democracy are increasing, heightening economic instability, geopolitical tensions, climate-related issues, and more. And all this puts enormous pressure on the communities, and, in this context, the partnership is highly relevant and more important than ever, noted the vice president of the European Parliament.
