The United States plans to reduce the number of its troops in Bulgaria, Hungary, and Slovakia by mid-December, NATO countries’ sources said, reports Kyiv Post daily of Ukraine.

According to a source, this reduction will be “marginal.”

The drawdown of US forces in Eastern Europe could continue into 2026.

Sources told Kyiv Post that Washington believes European armies can defend themselves, especially after increased military spending within the framework of NATO commitments.

The aforesaid daily does not specify how many US troops will be withdrawn from Eastern European countries, or how many will remain in the region.

Earlier, Romania’s Ministry of National Defense reported a reduction of US troops in the country from 1,700 to about 1,000 personnel. Romanian Defense Minister Liviu-Ionut Mosteanu said that the United States was reducing its forces in Europe to focus more on the Indo-Pacific region.
