The death toll from the 6.3 magnitude earthquake that struck northern Afghanistan has risen to seven, said Samim Joyanda, the spokesperson for the health department in Samangan, a mountainous northern province near Mazar-e Sharif, Reuters reports.

“A total of 150 people injured and seven martyred have been reported and transferred to health centers as of this morning,” Joyanda said Monday.

The toll was based on hospital reports collected as of Monday morning, he said.

Earlier the same day, Uzbekistan’s seismological monitoring center recorded a 6.8 magnitude earthquake in central Afghanistan. The tremors were felt throughout the country.
