The US government shutdown is nearing its end, President Donald Trump has announced, CNN reports.

“It looks like we're getting close to the shutdown ending. You'll know it very soon,” Trump told reporters.

According to CNN, a bipartisan agreement has been reached in the US Senate to fund the government through January 30 and schedule a vote on the Affordable Care Act; the healthcare vote will take place in December.

Sources also said that the agreement includes reversing Trump’s decision to lay off federal workers and contains provisions to prevent similar actions in the future.

Additionally, the agreement will secure funding for food stamps for the entire 2026 fiscal year.

One source said that the Senate Democratic caucus has enough members to move the plan forward and end the 40-day government shutdown.

At least eight Democratic senators have agreed to vote in favor of the deal, which was mediated Sunday evening by three former governors and others.

The agreement also guarantees that all federal employees will be compensated for the shutdown.

According to CNN, the vote on ending the government shutdown will take place in the coming hours.
