The Washington administration has suspended trade proceedings against China in the shipbuilding and shipping sectors for one year. This was announced in a statement published on Sunday by the office of the US Trade Representative.

According to the document, all actions within the investigation will be suspended at midnight on Monday.

The investigation was launched in April 2024 and concerned allegedly unfair practices by China in shipbuilding, shipping, and logistics. US authorities claimed that China seeks to secure a dominant position in these sectors.

As per the statement, the suspension of this investigation followed the trade and economic agreements reached between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, which the White House had announced on November 1.

The US Trade Representative’s staff added that in the trade talks, the American side will discuss with Chinese authorities the issues raised during this investigation.

By taking these steps, the US will continue efforts domestically and hold consultations with key allies and partners to revive American shipbuilding, the document also emphasizes.
