US President Donald Trump has promised to pay $2,000 each to all Americans, except for high-income individuals, as dividends from the tariffs he has imposed on nearly all countries.

“People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS! We are now the Richest, Most Respected Country In the World. (...). Record Investment in the USA, plants and factories going up all over the place. A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone,” Trump wrote, in particular, on Truth Social.

He added that thanks to the tariffs, the US is taking in trillions of dollars and will soon begin paying down its national debt of $37 trillion.

Following Trump’s statement, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent explained that the $2,000 dividends for each person could be provided in various ways, including through tax breaks. He added, however, that this matter has not yet been discussed with the president.
