Renault has introduced its production-ready Twingo E-Tech, a subcompact urban electric vehicle (EV).

The new model features a five-door hatchback body, an overall length of 3.79 meters, and a 2.49-meter wheelbase. The curb weight of the new Twingo is comparable to that of the Vesta wagon (1200 kg). The new Renault is based on the CMF-B EV platform. It has front-wheel drive and an electric motor producing 82 horsepower and 170 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes no less than 12 seconds.

To offer the lowest possible price for the Twingo E-Tech, it is equipped with the lowest-capacity battery of any Renault EV — 27.5 kWh, without a fast-charging option, according to Drom.ru. In real-world conditions, the range on a full charge will be less than 100 km.

The exterior of the Renault Twingo E-Tech is designed to closely resemble the first-generation Renault Twingo, with some subtle redesigns. For example, the original Twingo’s notable rear glass is now surrounded by a thick gray frame on the Twingo E-Tech. The wheels are significantly larger than those of the original compact car, as the Twingo E-Tech weighs 400 kg more.

The interior of the Renault Twingo E-Tech is simple and unembellished, featuring only physical buttons and no touchscreens. The instrument cluster display is built into the dashboard and protected from glare.

The interior, trimmed with 100% recycled polymers, is enlivened with accent inserts in the body color, adding a retro touch.

The rear seats are designed as two individual seats that can independently slide 17 cm longitudinally. The rear door windows do not have a lowering mechanism — they can only be opened slightly by releasing the latches, just like on the original Twingo. Beyond nostalgia, this is also a cost-saving measure, as Renault struggled to keep the Twingo E-Tech’s retail price below 20,000 euros.

The Renault Twingo E-Tech will be available in Europe starting next year.
