YEREVAN. – Those citizens of Armenia who work abroad at diplomatic and consulate corps or in foreign branches of companies registered in Armenia can vote for parliamentary and presidential elections through the Internet by visiting Central Election Committee (CEC) official website.

Representing the issue, CEC member Tatevik Ohanyan clarified that online voting will start nine days before the actual election day in Armenia at 8 a.m. (Yerevan time) and will be over five days before the actual election day at 8 p.m. (Yerevan time).

According to her, no later than 50 days before the Election Day, Armenian MFA and those Armenian companies, which have branches abroad, will submit to the Passport and Visa Department the list of people who can vote through the Internet. The Department will check whether those people indeed have the right for voting and will transfer the list to the CEC. The latter will set up the list in the website. At the same time, CEC will remove those peoples’ name from the common lists to avoid double voting.

However, CEC former member, current off parliamentary opposition Armenian National Congress member Zoya Tadevosyan claimed in the interview with Radio Liberty that the list also may serve for the election frauds. 

Parliamentary opposition Heritage party MP Larisa Alaverdyan welcomed the innovation in the interview with Radio Liberty. However, she doubts on its publicity and transparency for the interested parties of civil society. Besides, she believes that everything good is changed into bad when used in Armenia, depending on the goal of the political party.
