YEREVAN.- The construction of the North-South transport corridor will be launched this April, Armenian Transport Minister Manuk Vardanyan told the journalists on Wednesday.

Six companies participated in the tender, he said adding that information will be assessed and sent to the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The government will sign a contract with a company after the decision is made within the next few days.

Manuk Vardanyan admitted that the residents of Ujan village are discontent with the amount of land compensation. However, the Minister added that measurement and assessment of lands is underway.

According to the ADB assessment, amount of compensation exceeds market prices by at least 50% as the social conditions of the dispossessed families are taken into account.

The North-South project aims to construct road from the Armenian-Iranian to Armenian-Georgian border.
