Today the Parliament of Georgia will initiate a new Election Code, which will harmonize regulations and improve technical standards, clarify procedures, and eliminate duplicate provisions. This was announced by speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, reports the First Channel television of the country.

According to Papuashvili, these changes will significantly improve the regulatory framework of the electoral process in Georgia.

“Defining the procedure for voting within the territory of Georgia increases the stability of elections, reduces the influence of external actors, and ensures a more proper, informed choice. This model fully complies with international standards and operates in countries such as Ireland, Malta, Israel, Armenia. I again emphasize: nothing changes in the electoral rights of [Georgian] citizens abroad. As before, every citizen of Georgia will have the full right to vote. The only condition is to come to the homeland once every four years and vote in Georgia,” Papuashvili stated, in particular.
