Two members of the US National Guard were shot near the White House in downtown Washington, D.C., report ABC and AP, citing sources, as well as Newsmax journalist Mike Carter, referencing the Secret Service.

The current condition of the injured is still unknown. CNN reports that several people were injured in the incident, including at least one member of the National Guard. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem later confirmed that two National Guard members were injured.

The shootings took place at the intersection of 17th and 1st Streets, just one block away from the White House. Police have detained the suspect.

The crime scene is cordoned off. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that President Donald Trump has been informed about the shootings. The White House is currently under strict protection, reports Reuters.
