Researchers at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China have developed a new technology that enables extracting drinking water directly from the surrounding atmosphere, China Daily reports.
Accordingly, condensation and absorption methods, as well as a heat pump, are used to collect the water.
It is claimed that this development is adapted to different climatic conditions, including high temperatures and low humidity.
In particular, a solar-powered autonomous station has been created that can operate without any infrastructure.
The device, comparable in size to a small bus stop, works at temperatures from 15 to 40 degrees Celsius and air humidity from 35% to 99%, and produced up to 50 liters of drinking water per day.
In addition, a platform has been created with a production capacity of up to 1,600 liters per day, which can be used in island hotels or small settlements.
This invention is expected to help solve the problem of water scarcity in certain regions of Earth.
The development is suitable also for areas with unstable water supply.
