Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmat Hajiyev commented on his country’s relations with Russia after the recent downing of an Azerbaijani passenger plane.

Hajiyev acknowledged that immediately after the incident there were “some misunderstandings” and “emotions,” but noted that Azerbaijan’s concerns were discussed in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, during a subsequent meeting.

The Azerbaijani presidential aide said that his county expects four steps from Russia: an official apology, a full investigation, punishment for those responsible, and compensation.

“As soon as these issues are resolved, we will turn the page on the misunderstanding and continue normal good neighborly relations between the two countries,” Hajiyev added.
