Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II having a child is harmful because foreign intelligence services may engage in recruitment, taking such “vulnerability” into account. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during the press briefing after the government cabinet meeting Thursday.

According to him, these are risks linked to state security, and the state must be very attentive in this matter.

He considered it “obvious” that the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin is controlled from outside.

According to him, many clergymen of the Armenian Apostolic Church live on the brink of poverty, while another group has accumulated enormous wealth. “This is a problem,” Pashinyan added.

He assured that he has no expectation that the Armenian Apostolic Church will have a Catholicos loyal to him.

Pashinyan added that there is no one-man rule in Armenia, but rule by the people.

He again stated that he intends to propose a new constitution to the Armenia’s public. “The people will have the opportunity to make a decision,” the Armenian premier concluded.
