The international atmosphere is very important in any bilateral relations. It is very important that international partners create an environment that contributes to the ripening of such a step. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this during a press briefing with Armenian reporters in Hamburg, Germany—and speaking about the possibility of opening the Armenia-Turkey border and the role of the international community in that process.

“By the way, let me tell you that the normalization of Armenia–Turkey relations and the opening of the border have now acquired a completely different context, because also within the framework of the Crossroads of Peace and the TRIPP Route projects, the opening of the Armenia–Turkey border now means establishing a railway connection from Central Asia to the European Union, establishing a road transport connection, it means the possibility of new pipelines, the possibility of extending new power transmission lines. We are talking about green hydrogen. There are projects that make you wonder, well, how realistic is this? Today it is obvious to me that at some point in the future, a green hydrogen pipeline will definitely come from Central Asia to Europe. Now, the normalization of Armenia–Turkey relations and the opening of the border mean that this potential pipeline will gain yet another additional route option, which is beneficial both for the countries of our region and for the EU countries,” Pashinyan added.

“During my meeting in Hamburg with representatives of the business community, I voiced a thought that on August 8, an important political decision was made and political leadership was shown. But now I feel that the economy is outpacing us politicians. I feel that the economy is outpacing politics, and this is very good news, because the economic ties and economic interests that are forming in Armenia–Azerbaijan relations and in a broader context are the most reliable guarantees of stability and security, because once the businesses of the region start making money together and each brings additional income to its own country, then none of the countries will have any interest in destabilizing the other country or the region as a whole. On the contrary, it will show great interest in the stability of countries and the region,” the Armenian PM emphasized.
