WASHINGTON. – The U.S. closed its Embassy in Syria in connection to alarming situation in the state. All the employees of the diplomatic representation including the Ambassador Robert Ford left for the homeland from Damascus.

“We, like other diplomats of different states, expressed our concerns to the Syrian Government in connection to the security of the employees. However, the regime cannot adequately react to the situation,” State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said adding Ford will preserve his office but will work from Washington.

He must be ‘in contact with Syrian opposition’ and ‘contribute to peaceful political transmission’ in Syria, Reuters reports.

The State department has informed still in Jan. 21 that it may close the diplomatic representation in Damascus in connection to the deteriorated situation there.
