Armenian man Vagif Khachatryan, who is held in Azerbaijani captivity, has been hospitalized.

Emil Gasimov, head of the intensive care unit at Yeni Klinika, told APA news agency that 70-year-old Khachatryan was urgently admitted to the intensive care unit Monday night in critical condition with severe aortic stenosis, moderate mitral stenosis, and decompensated chronic heart failure, which led to pulmonary edema and severe respiratory failure.

Gasimov added that treatments in the intensive care unit—including medication, fluid management, and non-invasive ventilation—gave positive results.

“The patient has overcome the life-threatening critical phase, but his condition remains serious. Treatment continues in the intensive care unit under close supervision,” he said.

In July 2023, the Azerbaijani side had also abducted Vagif Khachatryan, a resident of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), from the Hakari Bridge. He was coming to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, for heart surgery, accompanied by his daughter, and through the Red Cross.
