A Spanish coachbuilder has unveiled its interpretation of the Mazda Miata as a classic European roadster, Motorious reports.

This Japanese car has long been appreciated for its lightness, balance and clean engineering, often serving as the basis for bold design experiments. However, in this case, it is not just about styling, but a complete reinterpretation of the Miata in the spirit of post-war European sports cars.

The project was carried out by Hurtan Automoviles, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2022. To celebrate the anniversary, the workshop has unveiled the limited edition Grand Albaycin 30th Anniversary Special Edition roadster, which is based on the fourth-generation Mazda Miata ND. The modern body panels were completely replaced with new, retro-styled, sleek lines and expressive shapes inspired by models such as the Jaguar XK120 and Alfa Romeo 6C.

At the same time, the proportions and character of the original Miata were carefully preserved.

Production was reportedly limited to just six hand-built examples completed in Spain. Buyers were offered two versions: Heritage and Bespoke, which differed in the level of personalization and trim. Deep classic exterior colors—including midnight blue, cherry, and lead gray—were available for the body while the interior was decorated with beige or tobacco-colored leather. Special embroidery on the seats emphasized the model’s anniversary status.

Technically, the car retained all standard Mazda mechanical parts. Under the folding hood were naturally aspirated Skyactiv-G engines with a displacement of one, five or two liters, which produced approximately 129 and 181 horsepower, respectively. Rear-wheel drive was available, and the standard transmission was a six-speed manual, although an automatic was also offered for the more powerful engine version.

Each example took about six months to build, reflecting the labor-intensive nature of the project.

The price of the anniversary edition has not been officially announced, but the price of the regular Grand Albaycin models was significantly higher than the standard Miata, which emphasized their exclusive and collectible nature.
