Thirteen people were killed, and 98 others were injured after a passenger train derailed in Mexico, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said in a statement on X. She added that five of the injured were in serious condition.

The Mexican Secretariat of the Navy said that there were 241 passengers and nine crew members on the derailed train. Mexican Attorney General Ernestina Godoy Ramos, for her part, announced that an investigation into the incident had been launched. The accident occurred on Sunday between Chivela and Nizanda towns in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca.
