Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received a US Congress delegation on Sunday, Azerbaijani media reported. Aliyev informed them that trade relations have already been established between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Stressing the “historical significance of the agreements reached,” Aliyev specifically emphasized the role of US President Donald Trump in this matter. The Azerbaijani president stated that his country will continue its efforts to promote the regional peace agenda. He spoke about the export of Azerbaijani oil products to Armenia, as well as the supply of wheat to Armenia from Kazakhstan and Russia through the territory of Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani leader, however, expressed dissatisfaction with Section 907 of the 1992 Freedom Support Act—which bans direct US aid to Azerbaijan's government due to its blockade and use of force against Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War. Highly appreciating Section 907’s suspension by US President Donald Trump, Ilham Aliyev expressed hope that members of US Congress will continue their efforts to completely repeal it, Azerbaijani media added.
