A district court in Finland's capital city Helsinki has ordered the arrest of one of the crew members of the Fitburg cargo ship, who is suspected of damaging an underwater cable, the head of the investigation team, Kimmo Huhta-aho, told reporters.

The detainee is an Azerbaijani citizen, but Huhta-aho did not comment on his whereabouts.

The aforesaid cargo ship's crew consists of 14 people. They are citizens of Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan.

The ship is suspected of damaging an Elisa company telecommunications cable in the Gulf of Finland on New Year's Eve.

At the time, Fitburg was en route from Saint Petersburg, Russia, to Haifa, Israel.
