The US Department of Energy has allocated a total of $2.7 billion to three companies to “strengthen domestic enrichment services,” the Department noted in a statement.

The funds were provided for the development of uranium enrichment capacities in the US “over the next ten years.” The US authorities hope that this will “enhance energy security and reduce reliance on foreign suppliers.”

The US Department of Energy has placed respective orders worth $900 million, each, to American companies American Centrifuge Operating and General Matter, as well as Orano Federal Services, which is a US subsidiary of the French concern Orano.

US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright has announced that the Washington administration “is committed to restoring a secure domestic nuclear fuel supply chain capable of producing the nuclear fuels needed to power the reactors of today and the advanced reactors of tomorrow.”
