French automaker Renault has confirmed the name of its new large and premium crossover, the Filante, which will be the flagship model of the brand's global lineup, Autocar reports.
The company borrows the name of the new model from the previously presented radical Filante concept car (a prototype of a future car designed to showcase new style, design and technology, often shown at auto shows to test the audience's reaction - ed.) and is intended to emphasize Renault's ambitions in the large and luxury car segment.
The Filante is positioned as a large, premium off-roader/crossover built for global markets, which will stand out from other Renault models in size and equipment.
The Renault Filante is scheduled to make its public debut in Seoul, South Korea on January 13. Production will begin at the company’s Busan plant in South Korea, and it will initially be available in the South Korean market, followed by an expanded global presence. This decision reflects Renault’s global strategy to expand its presence outside Europe, strengthen its position in the D and E segments, and target more premium segments of the automotive market.
The Filante name has historical and symbolic significance: it refers to the legendary Etoile Filante, launched in 1956, which was inspired by aviation and set speed records of over 300 km/h. The name reflects also the Filante Record 2025 concept car, which demonstrated record energy efficiency in electric driving.
Few details have been released about the car's technical specifications, but it is known that the Renault Filante will be a large E-segment crossover, approximately five meters long, with a spacious interior with high-quality materials and modern multimedia electronics. Renault plans to make this model a symbol of its global movement along the price and segment ladder, offering a combination of stylish design, comfortable interior, and modern technology.
