A total of 2,263,642 tourists visited Armenia in 2025. Economy minister Gevorg Papoyan announced this at Thursday's Cabinet meeting of the Armenian government, and noted that this is 2.5 percent more than the previous year's figure and 19.4 percent more than the figure for 2019.

According to Papoyan, the highest figures in the history of tourism in Armenia were recorded in 2023. Last year, 216 thousand fewer tourists came from Russia than in 2023. But instead, 166 thousand more tourists came from other countries, and this made the difference to about 50 thousand.

“Our policies will be about, for example, maintaining the share of Russia, which was 52-53 percent, but now 41 percent, maintaining Russia’s numbers, continuing to increase, but continuously increasing the volumes of other countries,” Papoyan said.

According to him, in December of last year, more than 139,000 tourists came to Armenia, thanks to which, so to speak, the country had the best December ever.

At today’s Cabinet meeting of the Armenian government, Papoyan presented the draft on approving the strategic plan for the development of tourism in Armenia for 2026-2030 and the action plan to ensure the implementation of this strategic plan.

He noted that it will be a priority to position Armenia in the international market as a destination for cultural, gastronomic, and adventure tourism. Also, work will continue to be carried out to increase Armenia’s appeal as a tourist destination for those who prefer agro, MICE—an acronym for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions—medical and sanatorium, as well as religious tourism.
