The speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, did not reveal where the data came from on Armenia allegedly controlling 110 square kilometers of Azerbaijan territory.

Speaking on a Sputnik Armenia podcast about the territories of Armenia occupied by Azerbaijan in 2021/22, Simonyan stated: “We are in their territory by 110 square kilometers, approximately, no one can say to the millimeter. I officially say that we have been ahead since the [19]90s. Now we are moving it this way and that way. And they are in our territory for about 200 square kilometers. I officially say that there are places since the [19]90s where we are ahead.”

The speaker of the NA of Armenia had made a similar statement in September 2025 also, but then he had used the word “let’s suppose.” Moreover, he was talking about other territories besides the former Soviet-era enclaves.

Sputnik Armenia was informed by the NA speaker’s office that “a need has risen to do additional work” to provide complete information, and the response will be sent within 30 days.

But later, the NA press service urged to ask the Armenian committee on Armenia-Azerbaijan border delimitation.

But the aforesaid committee declined to comment on Alen Simonyan’s aforesaid statement, and only cited the procedure approved by the decision dated December 14, 2023 of the Armenian government.
