ANKARA. – Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan intends to discuss the situation in Syria and Ankara’s initiative to settle the conflict there with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on the phone on Thursday, said Turkish FM Ahmet Davutoglu.

Ankara intends to convene a wide international platform of agreement, Turkish FM told NTV channel adding that Ankara opposes military operation from outside against neighboring Syria.

Commenting on Russian FM Sergei Lavrov’s visit Damascus, he said that the Syrian President had given similar promises to Turkey earlier but did not keep them. According to Davutoglu, Bashar al-Assad tries to gain time, RIA Novosti reports.

To note, Turkey first of all intends to gather together the ‘states-friends of Syria’ included in the League of Arab States. Later, if succeeded in negotiations with those states, to hold an international conference in Istanbul with the participation of UN Security Council and the EU member states to discuss perspectives of normalizing situation in Syria, Turkish Sabah reports.
