MOSCOW. – Russian President Dmitri Medvedev discussed with Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan the situation in Syria on the phone, Kremlin press center informs.

The conversation was initiated by Turkey.

“Medvedev explained Russia’s position in details, stressing necessity to continue with the UN Security Council the searches of agreed approaches to assist in regulating the crisis by the Syrians without external interference and fully respecting the sovereignty of Syria,” the release reads.

Erdogan asked Medvedev to inform about Russian efforts aimed at launching a dialogue between Syrian parties and the promotion of democratic reforms in the state. Special attention was paid to the results due to negotiations between Russian FM Sergei Lavrov and Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service Mikhail Fradkov and the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Tuesday.

“Medvedev and Ergodan expressed readiness to coordinate actions within the interests of soon solution of the Syrain crisis through peace,” the release reads, RIA Novosty reports.

To note, Turkish FM Ahmet Davutoglu said that Erdogan intends to discuss the Syrian problem with Russian President on the phone.
