The other three Armenians who were returned from Azerbaijani captivity—Gevorg Sujyan, Davit Davtyan, and Vicken Euljekjian—have been transferred to the “Muratsan” Central Clinical Military Hospital in Yerevan, Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned.

Vagif Khachatryan, who also was returned from Azerbaijani captivity, was transferred to Yerevan’s Nork Marash Medical Center. Khachatryan, a native of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), was abducted by Azerbaijan on July 29, 2023, in front of his daughter in the Lachin corridor and taken to the Azerbaijani capital city of Baku when he was traveling to Armenia for treatment—and accompanied by the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Vagif Khachatryan was charged in Azerbaijan under two articles of the country’s criminal code: genocide and forced displacement. Azerbaijan accuses him of committing the “genocide” in the village of Meshali on December 22, 1991.

According to Baku, there are 59 injured parties in the case. Vagif Khachatryan had stated in the Baku court that he does not accept the accusation and did not participate in any crime against Azerbaijanis. The Baku court, however, sentenced Vagif Khachatryan, who was abducted near the Hakari Bridge, to 15 years in prison. Khachatryan was to spend 5 of these 15 years in prison, and the rest in a correctional facility.
