European Union (EU) foreign ministers will discuss, in Brussels on January 29, a new package of sanctions against Iran, two European diplomats said, Politico reports.

According to them, the proposed list includes 21 items within the EU sanctions for human rights violations.

In addition, the European External Action Service proposes to include in these sanctions 10 items related to the production of drones.

The most ardent supporters of tightening sanctions against Tehran are Germany, France, and the Netherlands, Politico noted.

Euractiv reported, however, that the EU does not intend to declare the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, the elite military unit of the Iranian Armed Forces) a terrorist organization due to the resistance of Rome, Paris, and Madrid.

Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had stated that the EU does not rule out further tightening of sanctions on Iran.
