The construction of Turkey’s Alican checkpoint on the border with Armenia is 90 percent complete, Turkish media report.

Work continues at the Alican border checkpoint in the Karakoyunlu town of Turkey’s Igdir Province and the Margara border checkpoint in Armenia's Armavir Province.

Buildings are being built at the Alican border checkpoint to carry out customs and other procedures. In addition, billboards and announcements have been put up urging those traveling from Armenia to Turkey to visit Igdir and its surroundings.

Also, Turkish media o recall that the Alican border checkpoint has been closed since 1952.

Igdir Governor Ercan Turan said the goal is to open the border crossing by the end of this month.

"According to our plans, we aim to open the border crossing for service by the end of this month. Regarding the relocation of the military checkpoint, which belongs to the 5th Brigade Command [of the Turkish Armed Forces], the area will be transferred to the Ministry of Trade by the end of this month," Turan said.
